Winston Graham [Collection]

Winston Graham Collection: Corrected Proof and Presentation Copies with Letters: The Little World; Angell, Pearl and Little God; After the Act'; The Spanish Armadas; The Japanese Girl; The Green Flash; The Walking Stick; The Ugly Sister, Hodder/ Collins/ Bodley Head c.1970

From the creator of Poldark, a very interesting collection of seven novels inscribed to the self-styled 'Cornishman and Cornish bard', Michael Williams, and the highlight of the collection, a proof copy of Graham's 1955 novel The Little Walls with around eighty corrections in Graham's hand and a handful of sections of new typed text pasted over the proof text. A comparison with the text as published suggests that these corrections were applied to the final text but often with another phase of correction as well - this text therefore represents a sort of transtional version. The upper paper cover is detached with old tape marks to the edges and spine of the book. Additionally seven novels by Winston Graham, signed, with five letters from the author and other ephemera laid in together: Angell, Pearl and Little God, Collins 1970, inscribed to title page: 'Winston Graham October, 1984', ALS from WG, 2000, Savile Club paper laid in After the Act, Bodley Head, 1971, reprint, VG in VG wrapper. Inscribed to title page: 'Winston Graham October, 1984' The Spanish Armadas, Dorset Press, New York, 1972, near fine in near fine jacket, inscribed 'To Michael Williams from Winston Graham 1990.' TLS, 1978, laid in about his book 'MAKING POLDARK. It should, and I hope will, make an excellent companion book to POLDARK COUNTRY. Admirers of Robin/ Ross will grab the book for its pictures alone!' The Japanese Girl, Collins, 1978, reprint, near fine in near fine jacket, inscribed to title page: 'To Michael from Winston best regards.' ALS laid in referring to a house he once considered buying which he worked into the Poldark novels and features in 'Poldark's Cornwall.' The Green Flash, Collins, 1986, inscribed 'To Michael from Winston 30.8.90' ALS and envelope laid in from WG to MW making arrangements to meet during a forthcoming visit and to sign books. The Walking Stick, 1967, World Books, VG in G jacket, with handwritten post-it in Winston Graham's hand from 1992 about not living in Cornwall where he had recently received a warm reception at the Daphne Du Maurier Festival when his last Poldark novel was launched; with explanatory note by Michael Williams. The Ugly Sister, 1998, near fine in near fine wrapper, signed 'Winston Graham All good wishes, January, 2001' to a card tipped onto the first blank.
