SPENSER, Edmund

The Faerie Queene with an Exact Collation of the Two Original Editions Published by Himself at London in Quarto. To which is added a New Life of the author [by Dr Thomas Birch], and also a Glossary, J. Brindley and S. Wright 1751

Complete in 3 vols. First William Kent Edition. 4to. pp. [4], [i-iii] iv-lxiii, [1], [i]-xxxvii,[3], 453; pp. [2], 450; pp.[2], 440. 32 double page plates each tab mounted. Original early 18th century calf with acorn & foliate rule around edge of boards. Later rebacked with raised bands & compartments with gilt vignette within & red & green morocco spine labels. Very good boards with wear to leading edges. Internally complete with all plates collated. Occasional fox spot or handling mark but generally quite crisp leaves. A very attractive set of Spencer's Epic poem graciously illustrated by William Kent.
