ESTC note: A reissue of the 2nd ed. of 1737 with a cancel titlepage and four page insert signed J. Stevens and dated June 16, 1739. "As the title-page indicates, this is a very comprehensive work. The medical portion, according to the preface, is recommended to 'many pious and chaitable Gentlewomen in the country that are blessed with Riches, and make it almost their constant Business and Study to prepare and give Physick to the Poor, for almost all Distempers'. The dung of various animals and other horrible things are ingredients in many of the recipes." (Oxford). Approximately two thirds of the book are taken up with recipes and remedies, with the remaining part the book containing sections on gardening, improving of land, managing farmland, etc, together with instructions on shooting, hunting, fishing, bee-keeping, and other similar country pursuits. All editions are rare, for this third edition, ESTC locates 6 copies in the UK and 3 in the USA.
