Douglas, George M.

Lands Forlorn: A Story of an Expedition to Hearne's Coppermine River, New York: Putnam's Sons, 1914

1st Edition. xv, 285pp. Octavo. Bound in original gilt decorated blue boards. Coloured frontispiece. 181 black and white illustrations from photos. Two folding maps at the end. Top edge gilt. Fore edge has some mild foxing otherwise the book is very clean. Dust jacket has minor wear at the top of the spine otherwise is in very nice condition.

Note
Story of a three man expedition to the Coppermine via Great Bear Lake, a winter at Great Bear, then down the Coppermine to its mouth the following summer. A barren lands classic and a wonderful read. This copy inscribed to Miss D Mevell in memory of her brother Cosmo from the author. Cosmo Melvill(e) was a British Big Game Hunter who made a trip to the Barrens. Several pages have annotations in the authors hand. A prime and very collectable copy of the book.
