Konstantinopel - Reichhaltige Sammlung von über 196 Porträts, darunter Aufnahmen osmanischer Würdenträger und weiterer hochgestellter Persönlichkeiten, daneben weitere Personen in Original-Photographien. Vintages. Silbergelatine (die größerformatigen) resp. überwiegend Albuminabzüge (Carte de Visite). Gesteckt in modernes Ringbuch. Um 1878-1895. Nur wenig fleckig, kaum Schichtschäden insgesamt gut.
Formate von ca. 6 x 3,5 cm, überwiegend aber CdV- bzw. Kabinettaufnahmen, bis hin zu ca. 14 x 9,5 cm. Verso teils handschriftlich, meist arabisch bezeichnet und datiert. Unter den dokumentierten Studios: Michel Codelli, Atelier Phebus, Sebah & Joaillier, Apollon, Nicolay Andriomenos, Abdullah Fr., N. Athanassiades, Parnasse. Neben Studios aus Istanbul auch aus Smyrna, Skutari, Varna u.a.
Impressive collection of vintage portrait photographs from the Ottoman Empire, ca. 1878 to 1895. Formats starting at ca. 2,5 x 1,5 inches, mostly CdV, some ca. 5 x 3,5 inches. Mostly albumen prints, some gelatin silver prints. See above for list of studios documented. The portraits show mostly men, obvious in high positions. Some with handwritten marginals in Arabic script on the back, some dated 1878 and after. - Minor traces of age only, very good.
