Islamic Manuscript

A118) Qur’ān (ǧuzˁ number 10) ,

Complete Arabic manuscript on paper, probably from Egypt, XV/XVI century.
Leaf dimensions: mm. 175 x 132; written space: mm. 120 x 90. The writing is an old-fashioned variant on the nasḫī script, with medium-sized letters and showing some calligraphic solutions more similar to those of the ṯuluṯ style.
The text is composed by 30 pages, reporting the whole of the 10th ǧuzˁ of the Koran (a ǧuzˁ corresponds to one-thirtieth of the Koran). The tenth ǧuzˁ begins with the verse 41 of the sura VIII (al-‘Anfāl: w-aˤlamū …), ending at the verse 92 of the sura IX (at-Tawba: … lā yaˤlamūna).
The title is marked in red ink; the leather binding dates back at the same age as the manuscript’s, and has been embellished with dry decorations, then restored. The first sheet has suffered from text loss of little importance and has been restored as well; there are some traces of use, but the manuscript is undoubtedly in good conditions. (I.t.)
