POUND, Ezra.

A Draft of XXX Cantos., Paris: Hours Press, 1930

Limited edition, one of 200 copies printed on Canson-Mongolfier Soleil velin M.R.V. paper. 8vo. (vi), 7-141, (5) pp. Publisher’s oatmeal linen, red lettered to the upper board and spine, though the latter is faded and the linen browned, bookplate of the academic, poet and translator Dudley Fitts to the front pastedown with an inscription to the opposing page with his name plus “...New York 1930 / for review Hound + Horn”. Stylised initials to the start of each canto. Slight tenderness at the hinges, though the book remains sound.

Note
The Hound and Horn was founded by two Harvard undergraduates in 1927, whose literary work had been spurned by the Harvard Advocate. Gradually the outlook of the magazine broadened from its university roots and it published contributions from the likes of Gertrude Stein, T.S. Eliot and Ezra Pound; the latter appropriately enough given that the name of the magazine had been inspired by a line in his poem “The White Stag”. The magazine eventually folded in 1934.
